ID

Each record (one person) has a consecutive number..

Number of the family, as given in the 2d column of Schedule 1

Family

Family number of the deceased on the 1870 population schedule.

Name of every person who died during the year ending 1st June, 1870, whose usual place of abode at the time of death was in this family

FirstName

Names are as the enumerator spelled them.

LastName

Description: Age last birthday

Age

Age in years.  For children under 1, we entered 0.

AgeMos

For children under 1, their age in months.

Description: Sex

Sex

m = male; f = female

Description: Color

 

w = white; b = black; m = mulatto.

Married or widowed

Married

m = married; w = widowed (single left blank)

Place of birth, naming the state or territory of the U.S., or the country, if of foreign birth

PlaceOfBirth

We use standard USPS abbreviations for states.  Foreign countries are written out in full.  Spelling is corrected.

Parentage: Father of foreign birth

FatherForeign

We use standard USPS abbreviations for states.  Foreign countries are written out in full.  Spelling is corrected.

Parentage: Mother of foreign birth

MotherForeign

We use standard USPS abbreviations for states.  Foreign countries are written out in full.  Spelling is corrected.

The month in which the person died

MonthDied

We use standard 3-letter abbreviations.  Note that deaths from Jun. - Dec. occurred in 1869; deaths from Jan. - May occurred in 1870.
